15U AAA, 15U AA & 13U AAA Single Season Tryouts

These teams provide a highly competitive environment for players who are committed to developing their skills and representing COMBA across the province.

 

Commitment Expectations

Participation on a COMBA single-season team requires a significant commitment from both players and families starting with the respective team winter programs that run November - March.

• Season Attendance: Players are expected to attend at least 90% of all practices and games during the season from early April to mid August which may include Provincials, Westerns or Nationals.

• Weekly Schedule: Teams typically practice 2-3 times a week and play four games on most weekends as well as attend tournaments throughout the season.

• High Performance Environment: Athletes must be prepared to demonstrate consistent effort, display accountability and exceptional teamwork.

 

Travel Requirements

Single season competition involves regular travel throughout the province. Families should expect:

• Frequent travel within the Interior region, including communities such as Kamloops and Penticton.

• 6–8 trips per season to the Lower Mainland (Vancouver & area) and possibly 1-2 trips to Vancouver Island. Their schedules will often require early departures from school and frequent overnight stays.

• Weekend-long series of 4 games or tournaments with substantial time on the road.

• Player fees start at approximately $2,500 & up, with total expenses potentially increasing depending on travel, coaching costs and tournament schedules.

 

Playing Time

Please note that these teams DO NOT operate under a fair-play model. Playing time is determined by the coaching staff based on factors such as player development, performance, position, game situation and team needs. Playing time is not guaranteed.  

 

Financial Commitment

Competing at the single season level comes with higher costs to support winter ball facilities, coaching costs, travel and tournament play.

 

Fundraising Opportunities

To help offset costs, there will be parent-led fundraising initiatives throughout the season. Participation is strongly encouraged to help make the season more affordable.

 

Out of Catchment Players

Players whose primary residence is outside of Kelowna or Lake Country/Winfield are required to complete the Tryout Application Form ASAP before participating in evaluations. As per BC Minor’s rules, COMBA may select up to 3 out-of-catchment players per single-season team.

Players who do not have the required approval prior to participating in evaluations may be deemed ineligible to participate. Failure to comply with this rule may result in your player and the association being subject to consequences under applicable BC Minor rules.

15U AAA Bat Rules for Evaluation & Season

For players desiring to tryout for the 15U AAA team, your player may only use an approved wood, bamboo, wood composite or BBCOR bat during evaluations. These are the bats required to be used during the season. Evaluators will be checking to confirm that the bats meet the requirements below:

15U AAA BC Minor Bat Rule: 10 max length/weight drop, Wood, Bamboo, Wood Composite or -3 max length/weight drop and marked "BBCOR".
 

Evaluation Timelines

Evaluations begin following Thanksgiving, ranging from Oct 13 to Oct 19 for 13U AAA & 15U AAA. Rosters will be announced after the conclusion of evaluations.  

The 15U AA evaluation will begin following the completion of the 15U AAA evaluation, and will begin on or after October 20th with the roster expected to be announced after the conclusion of evaluations.
